Original Substandard Structure Ordinance Passes

After a split vote during the first reading of the City of Rotan’s new substandard structure ordinance and council members voting to consider other options last month, upon comparing regulations and hearing from the public during last week’s meeting, the council voted to adopt the original ordinance by a narrow majority.

Commissioners agree to pay out-of-pocket for new mattresses in empty jail The Fisher County Commissioners approved an interlocal agreement with neighboring Jones County for housing its inmates, which should provide the county with a less expensive alternative to housing its inmates. Fisher County Sheriff Tom Pohlman spoke to county commissioners on Monday, presenting an interlocal agreement between Fisher “This is just expanding where we’re housing inmates,” said Pohlman, referencing the eight pages that outlined the agreement with Jones County.

Officially Back to Full Service After Passing the State's 'Escape' Room Challenge The Texas Commissioner on Jail Standards met on May 2 in Austin, where after months of state scrutiny, the commission voted to rescind its remedial order that downgraded the Stonewall County Jail to a 72-hour holding facility, allowing the facility to again commence normal operations. The Stonewall County Jail has been under extra scrutiny from the state since the escape of an inmate on two consecutive occasions in late 2022.
